Statement from Governor Martinez:

 

An expansion of Katie's Law unanimously passed the Senate Public Affairs Committee, clearing a critical hurdle in our efforts to give law enforcement the tools needed to keep our communities safe. Katie's Law was passed in 2006, requiring a DNA sample for anyone arrested for a violent felony. This expansion will require a sample from anyone arrested for a felony crime, helping to take criminals off the streets and make New Mexico safer for our children and families.
