Statement from Governor Martinez:

 

The first step to improving our schools is understanding which ones are failing – and why. Currently, New Mexico’s public schools are rated on a system that is difficult to understand for parents, students, and lawmakers alike. This bill will assign our schools the same A, B, C, D, and F grades we give our students so parents can understand the quality of education that their children are receiving. SB427 passed the Senate Education Committee with overwhelming bipartisan support from legislators who understand that our children’s future is not a partisan issue.
