Incident advisory: Roswell
SANTA FE – The Office of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and the state Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management issued the following advisory regarding an explosion Wednesday at the Roswell International Air Center:
Roughly mid-day Wednesday, an explosion occurred at the Roswell International Air Center, south of Roswell. The Roswell Fire Department was packaging fireworks for an upcoming display when the explosion occurred; it is not yet known what caused the explosion.
At least a dozen individuals sustained injuries as part of the incident. Ten were treated on the scene and released; another two were transported to Lubbock, Texas. One individual, as of Wednesday night, was in critical condition; the other was in stable condition.
The governor and Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management are monitoring the situation; state homeland security personnel have been in contact with local officials.
New Mexico State Police was immediately dispatched to the scene and continue to investigate alongside local emergency responders, the FBI, ATF and the state fire marshal.
