Governor announces ‘rapid hire’ event

Dec 3, 2019 | Press Releases

Initiative aimed at filling hundreds of vacant state jobs

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham today announced a four-day Rapid-Hire Event to be held this month in Albuquerque aimed at fast-tracking hiring for hundreds of vacant state jobs all over New Mexico.

Every state agency with vacancies will participate in the event Dec. 11-14 –although not all on the same day. (A schedule follows at the end of this release.)

Screeners on-hand will review applicant resumes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Interviews will continue as far into each afternoon as needed.

“We’re proud of the family-friendly workplace we’ve created in state government, and we want everyone to know this is a great place to work,” Gov. Lujan Grisham said. “Come join us and help us build the best service-oriented state government in the country.”

The event will be held at the Tingley Coliseum at Expo New Mexico in Albuquerque. However, job seekers outside the Albuquerque metro area and Santa Fe may participate by going to their local New Mexico Workforce Connections office to set up interviews by video-conference. (See list of statewide office locations below.)

Rapid-hire events are designed to attract applicants and simplify the hiring process by providing on-site job interviews. Selected applicants can receive a conditional job offer the same day or shortly after.

Available positions are listed and described on the State Personnel Office here. If possible, applicants should identify positions for which they are applying ahead of time. However, human resources staff will be on hand to help guide candidates to openings that match their experience and interests.

State Personnel Director Pamela Coleman said job-seekers should consider the great career opportunities offered by the state.

“No matter what level of experience you have, it’s likely there is a job in state government for you. This is more than a job fair. The governor’s goal is for this to be a come-get-hired fair,” Coleman said.

Candidates may apply for two jobs per day of the job fair, and if you qualify, you will be scheduled for an interview.

Applicants should bring copies of an updated resume, three supervisory references, a school transcript and proof of right to work in the United States. Professional attire is recommended.

Gov. Lujan Grisham wants to spread the word that state government is a great place to work. She signed legislation this year giving 4 percent across-the-board raises to state employees and ordered state agencies to adopt policies to support worker health and alternative work schedules.

Those efforts won New Mexico’s executive departments, agencies, boards and commissions a first-ever Platinum Seal, the highest honor offered by Family Friendly New Mexico, a nonprofit initiative that has been supporting and recognizing businesses that adopt family-friendly policies since 2015.

The state currently has about 17,000 employees across more than 65 executive agencies, boards and commissions. Full employment would bring that number to more than 20,000.
