Governor makes judicial appointments
SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Monday announced the appointment of three judges:
- David Allen Murphy to the Second Judicial District Court serving Bernalillo County
- Karl William Reifsteck to the Thirteenth Judicial District Court serving Cibola, Sandoval, and Valencia counties
- Asra Imtiaz Elliott to the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court
Murphy most recently served as a Judge in the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court Criminal Division since 2019, where he presided over the Community Veterans Court specialty court. He previously served as a Deputy District Attorney for both the First and Second Judicial Districts, in addition to working as Assistant Attorney General and an Assistant Public Defender. Murphy graduated from the University of New Mexico and the UNM School of Law and was admitted to the New Mexico Bar in 2008.
Reifsteck most recently served as chief administrator and chief counsel for the Thirteenth Judicial District Court, where he has worked in various legal capacities since 2012 and chaired the judicial district’s Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. He previously worked as a staff attorney for Law Access New Mexico. Reifsteck graduated from the University of Notre Dame and the University of New Mexico School of Law and was admitted to the New Mexico Bar in 2008.
Elliott most recently served as Associate Staff Attorney for the Criminal Division of the Second Judicial District Court. She previously worked as an Associate Staff Attorney for the New Mexico Court of Appeals, an Assistant Public Defender, and an Assistant District Attorney. Elliott graduated from Pitzer College and the Thomas Jefferson School of Law and was admitted to the New Mexico Bar in 2010.
