Who is eligible for an internship?

High School and GED/HiSet students and recent graduates: Current enrollment in High School curriculum or GED/HiSET education program OR High School Graduate or successful completion of GED or HiSET within the last two (2) years.

Undergraduate students and recent graduates: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university OR completion of at least four semesters (or equivalent) at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years.

Graduate school students and recent graduates: Currently enrolled in a Graduate School Program at an accredited college or university OR completion of at least two semesters (or equivalent) of a graduate level program at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years.

What do I need to submit when I apply for an internship?

The State Personnel Office requires the submission of a resume and either an unofficial transcript or a copy of your diploma demonstrating your eligibility for the program.

How long is the internship program?

Internship lengths vary depending on the agency and the session. Summer sessions range from 8-10 weeks and positions are generally full-time, but part-time can be accommodated depending on the agency’s business needs. Spring and Fall sessions range from 10-12 weeks and are generally part-time, but full-time opportunities may be available as well. Some agencies offer internships throughout all three sessions.

Do I need work experience to get an internship?

No. All applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed previously; however, work experience is not a requirement. Work experience may strengthen your application, but you will not be penalized if you do not have work experience. The purpose of this program is to provide students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain work experience to count towards the minimum qualifications of a permanent position in state government.
