SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Monday issued the following statement in recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which began Sunday and runs through Oct. 15:

“Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate our culture, our history, our faith and our commitment to continued progress toward equity and equality. New Mexico is proud of its centuries of Hispanic heritage, one of the bedrocks of our collective state history and culture.

“It’s a diverse heritage, defined as much by the engineering marvels of our acequia and land grant communities as by the dances and songs that tell the stories of generations of innovation and resilience.

“New Mexico’s Hispanic community includes some of the world’s most celebrated authors, artists, business leaders and civic activists. They have left an indelible mark on our national identity, their works helping to define the American experience.

“Now more than ever, we must be unabashedly proud of our diversity; it can be a unifying force, an agent of positivity and strength, and in New Mexico, this month and indeed every month, we are proud of our Hispanic Heritage.”

Declaración de la gobernadora reconociendo el Mes de la Herencia Hispana

SANTA FE – El mes de la herencia hispana nos da la oportunidad de celebrar nuestra cultura, nuestra historia, nuestra fe y nuestro compromiso para continuar el progreso hacia la equidad y igualdad. Nuevo México es un estado orgulloso con siglos de herencia hispana, la cual es la fundación de nuestro estado, historia y cultura.

La herencia hispana es una reconocida por las maravillas de ingeniería que se encuentran en nuestras comunidades de acequias y mercedes, y igualmente por los bailes y música que delatan su historia de generaciones, innovación y resiliencia.

La comunidad hispana de nuestro estado incluye grandes personajes reconocidos mundialmente. Artistas, autores, hombres y mujeres de negocios, líderes y activistas cívicos que contribuyen a éste legado nacional de entidad.

Hoy más que nunca nos sentimos profundamente orgullosos de nuestra diversidad; fuerza que unifica, camino fuerte y positivo aquí en Nuevo México éste mes, como todos los demás, nos sentimos sumamente orgullosos de nuestra herencia hispana.
