Cannabis in New Mexico officially a billion-dollar industry – Sales top $1 billion, $75 million excise tax reported through January

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced today that cannabis sales in New Mexico have topped $1 billion in adult-use and medical sales. The sales record comes a month prior to the second anniversary of legal adult-use cannabis sales in New Mexico. Cannabis consumers have purchased more than $678.4 million worth of adult-use cannabis products and $331.6 million in medical products since April 1, 2022. Governor travels to Washington, D.C. for National Governors Association annual meeting

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is traveling to Washington, D.C., for the winter meeting of the National Governors Association. On Thursday, the governor attended a meeting of President Biden’s Council of Governors, where she serves as the co-chair of the Emergency Management and Disaster Response work group. Throughout the rest of the week, she will participate in NGA policy and business discussions, a White House Governors’ meeting, and a breakfast with cabinet officials and Western Governors. Legislature approves much of Governor’s agenda – With public safety agenda incomplete, governor considers special session

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Legislature adjourned its 30-day session on Thursday having passed much of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s legislative agenda. However, the governor is seriously considering a special session to press for additional public safety protections that New Mexicans demand. Lawmakers approved a $10.2 billion budget for FY 2025, a 6.8 % increase over current-year state spending. The Legislature passed a total of 72 bills, 48 of which were proposed or supported by the governor and state agencies. Governor applauds passage of House Bill 195 to make changes to Opportunity Enterprise Revolving Loan Fund

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham today celebrated the passage of House Bill 195, sponsored by Reps. Linda Serrato, Meredith A. Dixon, and Joy Garratt and Sen. Michael Padilla. The legislation makes changes to the Opportunity Enterprise Revolving Loan fund (OERF) at the New Mexico Finance Authority, opening it up to support housing infrastructure and workforce development housing projects. The bill is accompanied by a $125 million appropriation to the fund for housing in the FY25 budget. Bill banning firearms from polling places on way to governor’s desk 

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Senate passed an amended public safety bill Wednesday that largely prohibits the carrying of firearms at polling places. The Firearms Near Polling Places bill, Senate Bill 5, sponsored by Sen. Peter Wirth and supported by the governor, prohibits the carrying of firearms within 100 feet of a polling place during an election with some exceptions. “New Mexicans should be able to exercise their right to vote without fear of intimidation or, worse, violence,” said Gov.
